When I put my focus again on web development, I was quite lucky with my web host. I was introduced to the Cpanel, short for control panel. It basically laid down to you everything that you can do with your account packages – the programs you can install, the sub domains you can create and most especially the email accounts you can create. Many can be done automatically at the click of a button.

I had an experience before with a web host. It was a free web hosting since my website was a sub domain then. It was a church website and access I had was just an ftp access. My work was limited in terms of creating dynamic websites. Well, websites then were not yet as dynamic as today. Many use flash animations and fancy layouts to decorate everything. Content management platforms were not yet readily available then too. Many that we enjoy for free today were still under development.

As a webmaster, it is really important to find a good and reliable web host. Many, like Doteasy - web hosting offer good services and have established a name in quality service. Then, I wanted to modify a bit of my theme and customize how it shows my posts. That prompted me to learn PHP. All these work together and helped me learn the craft. These small beginnings might not teach you the actual coding and the syntax and all but it teaches you one thing. That is, the attitude of learning – and it all begins with a spark of curiosity.

Search Engine Optimization is hot in today’s worldwide web. Why? Because any website in accessible to traffic is almost similar to useless. After designing and finishing a website, you would have to put content for the people to see and read. But how do you let people read your content? Or even let them know that your website exists? Often times I compare web development with art activities like painting or drawing. This time, my point involves keeping your records organized in web development. Just as an artist keeps his stuff like paintbrush, oil paints, and other painting essentials in art storage , a web developer must also keep his or her tools well in folders and files.

Having a good and efficient method of keeping your records and reference files makes every work smooth and fast. Files are just where you want them to be at the most needed time.

For me, I usually separate finished graphics from raw, editable files, which have their own folder. Files like php or html also go to specific folders according to their function. Animations and flash files also go to another folder. All of these files within a project go to a folder with the project name as the folder name. All else that are not specific for one project go to a generic folder with their corresponding label.

Efforts such as this organization of files really pay up in long term as task patterns become easier to follow.

Graphics is a must in web development. Unlike those first few websites back in the nineteen nineties, where websites usually only contain texts, today’s websites do a lot more graphics and visuals in carrying out its message. Though it is highly accepted that content is the master mind of any web site’s success, graphics design doesn’t come far as it too is a huge factor in stimulating the interest of a reader.

Offering your services as either a freelance web developer, freelance web designer or freelance web programmer is something that you must be really willing to pursue. One fact about being a freelancer is that there is already a huge competition not just in your locality or country but around the world.

Thousands and even millions of freelancers can now offer their services even to clients thousands of miles away from them with the use of a reliable computer and a good internet connection. While some freelancers, like those in my cities, look for opportunities like trade show displays and advertise their services in trade show booths to get to reach their markets. Trade shows draw lots of crowd and you might just find the client that you have been looking for during your display of portfolio and skill.

When I began learning information technology, specifically web development focused on PHP programming, XHTML and CSS, I was really positive with it. I left my job when I decided to pursue this which I truly love. I know that when you are in information technology, it wouldn’t be difficult for you to find a job.

Especially I the place where I live, info tech people are hard to find. Many of them have gone to farther places sine several years ago, the developments in my city wasn’t that good – which means there are lesser jobs available.

Now, the city is booming and companies newly established are in dire need for info tech people so that they could go along the trend of businesses today – faster transactions and business deals with technology.

As a tip of the day, it is advisable for programmers to be well versed with business terms and procedures so that the technical knowledge that we have are backed up with practical learning that we can readily apply to our daily work.

As any web designer or developer would understand, creating a website isn’t pure coding. For one to develop a good website, different aspects must be considered.

Visual design plays a fairly important role as it catches the eyes of a person browsing the web. A bad combination of colors may distract a reader and may even cause eyestrain.

Marketing is also a key in a good website as new domains initially don’t have much traffic yet. You do this if you want people to see your site conveniently.

Content is a major player in drawing people into your site. The more useful your site content is, the more people are attracted in coming back.

As a web developer, you have to do several editing and changes every now and then. it is called “continuous improvement”, constantly suiting your product (website)  to your customer’s needs. it an be tedious but worth the while (at least, it isn’t as tedious as a rhinoplasty correction ).
